Available Physical Plant Services



Additional Services

  • Central Receiving ( Supply )
  • Central Receiving receives and ships incoming/outgoing freight for the Physical Plant. Vendors may complete a Vendor Affidavit if needed. For more information, call 744-7165.
  • Elevators
  • Elevator maintenance is provided by contract with a private company. This firm provides all aspects of elevator maintenance including routine safety inspections, preventive maintenance, testing and service. They respond to emergencies 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Elevator problems should be reported to the Action Desk at extension 744-7154.
  • Furniture Moving and Rental
  • Truck Services moves furniture, heavy equipment and supplies. This shop also rents chairs, tables, podiums and staging to authorized departments at a nominal cost and will set up for special events. To request service, call 744-7163.
  • Keys
  • The key shop provides OSU keys upon receipt of a completed Work Order Request from a department. Key recipients will receive their key order through the mail. All keys will be sent to the requesting departments main office and should be picked up there. For special needs, contact the Key Shop at 744-7160.
  • Pest Control
  • To request service or report special problems involving insects or animals, call the Action Desk at 744-7154 or E-mail us.
  • Physical Plant Stores
  • Physical Plant Stores provides a storeroom carrying a stock of standard, common-use construction and maintenance items to serve Physical Plant Services and for sale to other departments and agencies. For more information, call 744-7168.
  • Sign Making
  • The Sign Shop makes nameplates, special plaques, traffic signs, and information signs. Special services are also available upon request. For more information, call 744-7191.


How to Request Service

Services performed by Physical Plant Services can be initiated in one of two ways, depending on the nature of the work:

Action Desk Action Desk
(x7154): Contact the Action Desk for all routine maintenance work such as doors sticking, plumbing problems, broken windows, burnt-out lightbulbs, heating or air-conditioning needs, or repairs to classroom furniture or fixtures.
Pencil Work Order Request Form
Use the Work Order Request Form for services such as repairs to departmental equipment, installing new electrical outlets, painting furniture, installing computer cabling, cost estimates, and general remodeling projects.

How services are funded


Via GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET of Physical Plant

Physical Plant Services receives a budget allocation to operate and maintain facilities which are directly related to the teaching, research, and extension missions of OSU. All general university buildings are funded in this manner. Types of services normally provided include:

Via CHARGE TO REQUESTING DEPARTMENT

Physical Plant Services does not receive a budget allocation for many services and must charge the requesting department for those services. Requesting department must complete a Work Order Request Form. The following types of services are a partial list of those paid for by the requesting department:
  • Special custodial services such as clean-up after events
  • Set-ups for events
  • Design and construction or remodel or new work associated with a Campus Order Request
  • Non-maintenance related painting of offices and other non-public spaces
  • Departmental equipment maintenance and repair for items such as, but not limited to: stills, fume hoods, dedicated air-conditioning systems, autoclaves, environmental chambers, freezers, generators, and vacuum pumps
